A Story of Survival: Annie Windley’s Journey Through Anorexia and Recovery
Annie Windley, a young woman from Derbyshire, has chosen to share her deeply personal experience of living with anorexia in the hope of helping others who may be facing similar struggles. Her journey reflects years of physical decline, emotional pain, medical intervention, and, ultimately, a gradual path toward recovery.
At her lowest point, Annie’s weight dropped to just 29 kilograms (around four and a half stone), placing her in a critical medical condition and at serious risk to her life. Her story highlights just how devastating eating disorders can be—affecting both body and mind in profound ways.

The Early Onset of Illness
Annie was first diagnosed with anorexia in 2012. Like many eating disorders, her condition did not appear overnight but developed progressively, becoming more severe over time. By 2014, her health had deteriorated significantly, requiring ongoing medical care and close supervision.
Her early years of illness were marked by repeated hospital stays and intensive treatment. As her condition worsened, she experienced extreme physical weakness and medical emergencies that required urgent intervention. These moments marked the beginning of a long and difficult battle with her health.
