Britney Spears has reportedly been arrested for driving under the influence.
According to TMZ, the 44-year-old pop star was taken into custody on the night of March 4 in Ventura County, California. The California Highway Patrol reportedly handcuffed her around 9:28 p.m. Authorities booked her at 3:02 a.m., and she was released at 6:07 a.m. Thursday. A court date has been set for May 4.
TMZ first reported the arrest. After the incident, Spears reportedly removed her Instagram profile.
The arrest comes months after concerns about her driving surfaced. In October 2025, the Daily Mail shared a video of Spears leaving the Red-O restaurant in Thousand Oaks and getting into her black BMW. Witnesses claimed she nearly hit a friend while leaving the parking lot, and the video appeared to show the car swerving between lanes and briefly entering a bike lane.
Spears later said on social media that the driver in the video was not her but a “lookalike.” The restaurant’s manager also said she seemed calm during her visit and did not order alcohol, though a fan reportedly bought her a glass of wine.
Spears is one of the most influential pop stars of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Born December 2, 1981, in McComb, Mississippi, she first appeared on The Mickey Mouse Club before rising to global fame in 1998 with “…Baby One More Time.”
She went on to release major hits like Oops!… I Did It Again, Toxic, and Womanizer, selling over 100 million records worldwide. Along with music, she has appeared in films, television projects, and a Las Vegas residency. Her personal life, including a conservatorship that ended in 2021, has often been widely covered in the media.
