Former President Donald Trump revealed that Melania Trump is so shaken by the recent assassination attempt that she cannot discuss it. In an interview with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, Trump stated that Melania was watching live when the incident occurred and initially feared the worst when he went down, bleeding from his ear.
The attacker, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was killed by a Secret Service counter-sniper team. One rally attendee was killed, and two others were injured but have since been released from the hospital. Lawmakers from both parties have criticized the Secret Service for failing to secure the building’s roof, which Crooks accessed, and for losing track of him despite prior warnings.
Trump criticized the agency for not coordinating with local police, saying they were aware of Crooks’ presence. Despite the Secret Service advising against outdoor rallies, Trump insisted he would continue holding them, citing their symbolic importance. He confirmed plans for another rally in Butler.
Last week, Ronald Rowe replaced Kimberly Cheatle as acting Secret Service Director after she resigned following a challenging House hearing regarding communication failures leading up to the July 13 shooting.
