The night our parents died, everything changed. Left orphaned at just five, my siblings and I made a promise to always stick together. In one devastating night, our home and our café—filled with laughter and warmth—vanished, leaving us with strangers declaring us orphans. My sister Emma clung to me, while my brother Liam, though barely nine, silently vowed to protect and care for us.
In the orphanage, amidst confusion and loss, Liam’s quiet promise to reclaim our parents’ dream café lit a spark of hope. Even as Emma left the orphanage and I was placed with a foster family, we insisted on staying close—demanding placements that kept us together. Liam’s sacrifices were endless: he saved every penny to buy us little comforts, defended me from bullies, and soothed Emma’s tears.
As we grew up, Liam worked multiple jobs, Emma waited tables, and I eventually joined in, pooling our earnings in a tiny apartment so we wouldn’t ever be separated. Years of tireless work finally allowed us to reopen the old, rundown café, reviving the legacy our parents had dreamed of. Later, we even reclaimed the house where we grew up—a place filled with memories of their laughter and love.
Now, with our own lives and families, we still gather every weekend at that reclaimed home. Liam always reminds us, “Only in unity can a family overcome any obstacle,” a truth that has guided us through every hardship and would surely make our parents proud.
