A month later, while at a restaurant, I saw my sister Jessica meeting Richard secretly and giving him a bag of cash. Furious, I demanded an explanation, and she revealed that Richard had stage-three lymphoma, claiming I had abandoned him because I couldn’t handle it. However, I told her the real reason: Richard had cheated on me. Jessica, shocked, called our father, who had been helping Richard with treatment costs. It turned out Richard had been lying about his illness to manipulate the family.
After confronting our father, we learned he had given Richard $70,000, and the police were already investigating him. Richard tried to flee but was caught after a car accident. Jessica and I went to our father’s office, and he promised to return the stolen money. Later, Jessica apologized for doubting me, and I assured her it wasn’t her fault—Richard had fooled us all.
